Atlantic Records CEO Reveals Two-Year Secret Collaboration Behind GTA 6 Album
When Rockstar Games and Atlantic Records unveiled Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album on September 17, the announcement felt sudden — a polished reveal of 34 original tracks featuring Travis Scott, PinkPantheress, Morgan Wallen, Keith Richards, and dozens more. But according to Atlantic’s leadership, the project had been quietly underway for two full years.
As pre-orders opened, the Atlantic Records CEO shared a candid statement describing the effort as “two years of our lives” and “one absolutely insane project.” The executive credited a dedicated core team at the label that worked in close partnership with Rockstar Games from the very beginning, keeping the entire collaboration secret despite GTA VI being one of the most scrutinised games in the industry’s history.
The fact that such an extensive music production partnership remained under wraps — even as the game itself leaked repeatedly over the same period — underscores the tight information controls Rockstar maintained around the album as a distinct creative work. Atlantic’s involvement appears to go well beyond licensing: the label effectively co-produced a bespoke body of music designed specifically around the game’s Vice City and Leonida setting.
Perhaps most intriguingly, the statement closed with the phrase “we’re just getting started,” widely interpreted as a signal that additional music or partnership announcements are planned ahead of the November 19 launch. GTA VI: The Album will be available on streaming services and physical vinyl and CD on the same day the game releases on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
