GTA 6 DualSense Controllers Go on Sale — and the PlayStation Store Immediately Crashes

Sony launched two limited-edition GTA 6-themed DualSense controllers for pre-order on September 10, offering a black and a white variant, each featuring color-shifting paint, palm tree embossing on the grips, and the Grand Theft Auto VI logo stamped on the touchpad. Priced at $85 apiece, the controllers went live simultaneously on PlayStation Direct, Best Buy, Walmart, and GameStop.

The PlayStation Direct storefront buckled almost instantly under the volume of buyers trying to secure one. Customers reported being queued for upwards of an hour, only to hit checkout errors when they finally reached the front — one viral screenshot showed the Astro Bot error screen as the platform struggled to cope. Best Buy was effectively sold out within minutes, while Walmart and GameStop held up marginally better, though cart errors and loading failures were widespread throughout the morning.

Scalpers wasted no time. Within hours of the controllers going live, eBay was flooded with resale listings asking between $130 and $195 per unit — more than double the retail price in some cases. Whether those flips will succeed at those prices remains to be seen, but the launch underscored just how much consumer appetite has built around GTA 6 merchandise with fewer than ten weeks to go until the November 19 release.

Sony and Rockstar have not confirmed whether additional stock will be made available before launch. The controllers are part of a broader wave of GTA 6-branded hardware and merchandise that has accompanied the game's final pre-release marketing push, following the 26-minute Extended Look that went live on August 27.
