Rockstar Officially Announces GTA 6 Extended Gameplay Look, Premiering on Netflix August 27

Rockstar Games has officially announced that Grand Theft Auto VI's next major reveal will be titled 'Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look' and is set to premiere on Netflix on Thursday, August 27 at 3 p.m. ET (12 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. BST). For those without a Netflix subscription, the same content will go live on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI website at 9 p.m. ET the same evening. The announcement, made today on August 6, ends months of speculation about when and how Rockstar would deliver its third — and almost certainly final — major marketing push before the game's November 19 launch.

The Netflix component is the headline surprise. Both previous GTA 6 trailers — the first in December 2023 and the second in May 2024 — premiered exclusively on Rockstar's own YouTube channel. Choosing Netflix as the platform to host the world premiere is a significant departure from that pattern, and Netflix itself framed it accordingly, describing the collaboration as 'a first-of-its-kind partnership to premiere an extended look at the next evolution in the groundbreaking Grand Theft Auto series.' The streaming giant's global reach, combined with Rockstar's existing relationship with Take-Two's publishing arm, makes the pairing commercially logical even if it caught the gaming community off guard.

The timing relative to Take-Two Interactive's calendar is notable. Tomorrow, August 7, the company holds its Q1 fiscal 2027 earnings call — and announcing a high-profile reveal event the day before follows a pattern that insiders and analysts had flagged for weeks. Insider Tom Henderson had specifically predicted an August 6 announcement window back in July, reasoning that Rockstar would want fresh marketing momentum heading into the investor presentation. His date was right; the format — an announcement pointing to a later premiere rather than the trailer itself — was the variable. Rockstar also used the announcement to reaffirm the November 19, 2026 release date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The phrase 'extended look' is doing a lot of work in the title. It almost certainly signals more than the cinematics-heavy approach of the first two trailers, raising expectations for genuine gameplay footage — something fans have not seen in any official capacity in the years since GTA 6 was announced. With just over 15 weeks until the game's global launch, August 27 is now the single most anticipated date in gaming, and the Netflix premiere format ensures an audience measured in hundreds of millions will have access to the content the moment it drops.
