Leaked GTA 6 Footage Reveals Six-Star Wanted Level, Fuel Mechanic, Clone Key, and a New Morality System

The gameplay clips leaked by the group Cyberleek on August 18 have now been combed through frame by frame by outlets including Kotaku and PC Gamer, and the resulting breakdown reveals a game that has quietly evolved well beyond the mechanics of Grand Theft Auto V. Among the most notable finds: the six-star wanted level, long absent from the series since GTA IV and replaced in GTA V by a five-star cap, appears to have returned. The leaked HUD shows four faded, unfilled star icons alongside the active alert stars — suggesting a tiered police escalation system that ramps higher than anything in the previous mainline entry. None of this is confirmed by Rockstar, and the footage is of unknown vintage, but the specific UI detail is hard to dismiss as fabrication.

Two entirely new survival mechanics also appear in the footage. A fuel gauge and engine icon visible on the HUD suggest that, for the first time in the mainline series, players will need to manage vehicle fuel levels — a mechanic GTA has historically avoided, borrowing it from simulation-adjacent titles rather than open-world action games. Separately, a 'Clone Key' feature has been identified: rather than smashing a window to steal a car, players can apparently clone a vehicle's key fob, a mechanic with implications for stealth-oriented or non-destructive playthroughs. A healing item branded 'Zombix' also appears briefly, suggesting the game will carry named in-world consumables rather than anonymous health pickups.

Perhaps the most unexpected find is what appears to be a morality or reputation system. A devil icon with a negative symbol surfaces on screen after a character commits a violent act, which analysts have compared to the honor system in Rockstar's own Red Dead Redemption 2. If the mechanic carries real narrative or gameplay weight — rather than serving as a cosmetic flag — it would represent a significant departure from the moral neutrality that has defined the GTA series. Basketball has also returned as a playable minigame for the first time since San Andreas, and playing it apparently increases a stat called 'Focus,' implying a character progression system tied to optional activities throughout the open world.

It bears repeating that all of this comes from footage that Rockstar has not authenticated and that insiders believe originates from a development build more than a year old. The systems visible now may have been iterated on, expanded, or removed since these clips were recorded. The official Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premieres on Netflix on August 27, seven days from now, and represents Rockstar's own opportunity to show what the current build actually looks like. Until then, treat the mechanic details above as strong indicators rather than confirmed features.
