Dataminers combing through Xbox Store listings for Grand Theft Auto VI have uncovered a package structure that divides the game into several distinct components, fuelling widespread speculation about how Rockstar Games plans to release and distribute the game's online mode. The files, first spotted by X user GlowDevs and visible to players who have already pre-ordered, reveal separate entitlement entries labelled "Story," "Ultimate Edition Upgrade," "Vintage Vice City Pack," and a fourth entry simply called "Extra" — whose purpose Rockstar has not explained.

The "Story" label is the detail drawing the most attention. By cataloguing the single-player campaign as a discrete line item rather than bundling everything under a single product entry, the store structure raises the possibility that GTA Online could eventually be offered as a separate, independently installable component — much in the way Rockstar split Call of Duty-style into modular chunks on older platforms. Analysts and community observers have noted that a modular approach would also allow players to delete the online component to reclaim storage space, or to acquire it separately without owning the full campaign.

Some commentators have gone further, arguing the structure is consistent with a free-to-play release for GTA Online, reasoning that Rockstar is already charging $79.99 for the single-player campaign and is likely to rely on microtransaction revenue — as it has since 2013 — rather than a second premium price point for the multiplayer experience. That reading remains speculative; neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has said anything publicly about GTA Online's pricing model or release window beyond characterising GTA 6 at launch as "a single-player experience."

It is worth noting that store file structures are not release plans. The Xbox Store catalogues what a buyer's account is entitled to — edition upgrades, pre-order bonuses, ancillary packs — and a separate line item for "Story" may simply reflect housekeeping for digital entitlements rather than a signal about how the online mode will be sold. Rockstar has made no official announcement about GTA Online for GTA 6, and the mystery "Extra" entry remains entirely unexplained. With the game's November 19 launch now less than four months away, formal details about the online component are widely expected before year's end.
