GTA 6 Pre-Orders Near $500 Million as Xbox Crosses One Million Copies, Sensor Tower Data Shows

Analyst firm Sensor Tower, which has been running a public weekly tracker for Grand Theft Auto VI pre-order sales, released updated figures placing total units at approximately 4.38 million copies and estimated revenue at roughly $429 million — a figure closing in on half a billion dollars before the game has shipped a single copy. These are third-party estimates based on Sensor Tower methodology and have not been confirmed by Rockstar Games or publisher Take-Two Interactive.

The platform breakdown tells a story of PlayStation dominance with a more competitive Xbox presence than earlier reports suggested. PlayStation 5 accounts for around 77 percent of pre-orders, translating to approximately 3.38 million copies and $331 million in estimated revenue. Xbox Series X|S has now crossed one million pre-orders — representing 23 percent of the total — generating an estimated $98 million. That closing gap is notable given earlier tracking had placed PlayStation's advantage closer to a six-to-one ratio, a shift observers attribute to Xbox's dedicated player base and growing momentum as the November 19 launch date approaches.

Context from prior Sensor Tower data remains relevant: roughly 89 percent of all GTA 6 pre-orders are for the $99.99 Ultimate Edition rather than the $79.99 Standard Edition — a rate the firm described as four times the industry average. Combined with the new total figures, the data suggests pre-order buyers are overwhelmingly opting for the premium tier, pushing average revenue per unit well above the base price. Sensor Tower updates its tracker weekly, so these numbers will continue to shift in the weeks leading up to the November launch.
