Former Rockstar Dev Says Bringing GTA 6 to Switch 2 "Doesn't Make Sense"

Jérémy Hartvick, a former open-world designer at Rockstar Games who contributed to Grand Theft Auto VI between 2017 and 2020, has gone on record with GamesRadar to share his view that a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game simply does not add up. His central argument is one of audience alignment: the people who most want to play GTA 6 are not the same people who primarily own a Switch, and any dedicated fan of the series would be willing to buy a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series console specifically to play it.

Hartvick questioned whether Rockstar would ever choose to deliver what he described as a "subpar experience" on Switch 2 hardware when the primary platforms can handle the game as designed. His rhetorical answer to his own question was an unambiguous "No." He also noted that, in his view, smartphones represent a more plausible long-term destination for the franchise than Nintendo's hybrid console, given the global scale of mobile gaming audiences.

It is worth noting that Hartvick left Rockstar six years before GTA 6's scheduled November 19, 2026 release date, and would not have visibility into any platform discussions taking place at the studio today. Rockstar and Take-Two have made no official comment on whether a Switch 2 version is being developed or tested, and the game has so far been announced exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Hartvick's comments reflect his own professional perspective, not any confirmed internal plans.
