GTA 6's $100 Ultimate Edition Is Outselling the $80 Standard Edition, Zelnick Confirms
In a new interview with CNBC, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed an unusual early pattern in GTA 6's pre-order data: the $99.99 Ultimate Edition is currently outselling the $79.99 Standard Edition. Zelnick described the split as the game "skewing more to the Premium Edition" — a rare window into the consumer response to Rockstar's two-tier pricing structure for one of the most anticipated titles in gaming history.
Zelnick was careful to add context to the finding. He noted that the premium skew "might be a reflection of the fact that the most avid consumers are the ones who are pre-ordering" — meaning the current split may not represent the final buyer distribution once casual players come in closer to or after the November 19 launch. The pattern of dedicated fans gravitating toward top-tier editions at launch is well documented across major platform releases, and Zelnick was clear he views the current data as a leading indicator rather than a definitive statement about the overall market.
The Ultimate Edition, priced at $20 more than the base game, bundles exclusive in-game content that integrates directly with GTA 6's story rather than sitting behind a separate online paywall: a premium vehicle collection, additional weapons, cosmetic items, and access to a dedicated Vehicle Mod Shop and contraband store unavailable to Standard Edition buyers. The content is positioned as a genuine narrative enhancement rather than a cosmetic-only add-on — a framing that appears to be resonating with early purchasers.
The data carries wider significance for the industry. If GTA 6's pre-order mix holds as the mainstream audience comes in, it would indicate that a meaningful share of buyers has absorbed not just the $80 base-price floor but a further $20 on top. That outcome would almost certainly accelerate publishers' confidence in premium editions as a pricing layer — and could inform how Rockstar positions any future DLC or online expansion pricing in the months after the November launch.
