GTA 6 Is Officially Eligible for The Game Awards 2026, With Review Codes Reportedly Arriving Before November
The Game Awards 2026 has confirmed an eligibility window that extends to November 20 at 9 p.m. PT, meaning Grand Theft Auto VI's November 19 launch date places it squarely inside contention for this year's ceremony. The cutoff represents a later deadline than the 2025 show, where nominations were already public by November 17, and it resolves months of uncertainty about whether Rockstar's blockbuster would be forced to wait until 2027 for its first major industry recognition. Earlier in the awards season, GTA 6 missed the Golden Joystick Awards entirely — that ceremony falls on November 11, eight days before the game ships.
The more pressing question is whether critics will have enough time with the game to actually vote on it. Industry leaker NateTheHate has suggested that review codes for GTA 6 could reach media and content creators before the end of October, which would give voters roughly three to four weeks of play time before nomination deadlines. Rockstar has not publicly confirmed a review embargo schedule, and the studio's historically tight information controls mean that early press access is never guaranteed. Still, if the October code distribution claim holds up, the window would be workable for voters willing to put in the hours.
On prediction markets, GTA 6 enters the conversation as the clear favourite despite not yet being commercially available — a rare position for any title. Markets currently give the game a 68 percent chance of winning Game of the Year, reflecting expectations that no other 2026 release has matched its cultural footprint or commercial scale heading into launch. The actual competition will depend on how quickly the game lands with critics and whether its single-player experience delivers on the enormous anticipation surrounding it. GTA 6 releases November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
